TRUMANN, AR  (KAIT) – Rick Winkles, who has been fire chief for several years in Trumann, suffered a massive heart attack while fighting a fire Tuesday afternoon, according to Lt. Revis Kemper with the Trumann Fire Department. Winkles died around 6 p.m. at the hospital.

According to Trumann Police Chief Chad Henson, Winkles suffered a heart attack while on call at Hatche Coon Road. Winkles was a few months shy of being on the force for 28 years. He had planned to retire.

Kemper said the home was a total loss, and it started from an accidental grass fire. The residents of the home have been reported safe.

Winkles was 53 years old.
