Pregnant woman recants story about drill attack

BAY CITY, MI (AP) -

A pregnant Michigan woman who accused her boyfriend of attacking her with a power drill has recanted what she told police.

Jermaine Perkins pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges including domestic violence, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days behind bars. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to dismiss a felony of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Perkins is free on bond ahead of sentencing Feb. 25.

Bay City police earlier said the woman told them Perkins slapped and kicked her, punched her and cut her arm with a Black & Decker cordless drill Dec. 15.

Assistant Prosecutor J. Dee Brooks and defense lawyer Robert J. Dunn say Perkins didn't use a power tool in the attack. They say the woman wrote a letter recanting her version of events.
