104th Fighter Wing holds annual awards ceremony

Posted: Updated:

Members of the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base and their families came together for their 40th annual award ceremony on Saturday night.

Awards were presented to more than 50 of the highest achieving members from the 104th Fighter Wing.

The wing winners will then contend at the national level against winners from the active duty, reserve and other national guard units.

Those receiving awards say it truly is an honor to be recognized by their peers.

"It's an honor because it doesn't happen to you every year. You know, you work hard regardless, and when you are recognized, you take great pride in coming here and standing up in front of your peers, to be recognized, and you get to shake the wing commander's hand and its very enjoyable," said Wendy Kiepke, the 104th Fighter Wing's budget officer.

"A lot of people on the civilian side don't understand the hard hours these people put in every day to make sure that they can defend the freedoms of the United States, so it really is a special night for us," said Col. James Keefe, the 104th Fighter Wing's commander.

Nearly 400 airmen and their families attended Saturday night's celebration at the Sheraton in downtown.
