Flint school district to hold special meeting

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The Flint school district is planning a special meeting to find solutions to the district's massive deficit.

The district has a $20 million deficit and officials have planned a meeting Monday to discuss how to fix it.

That meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Flint Southwestern Classical Academy, located at 1420 West 12th Street in Flint.

Interim Superintendent Larry Watkins tells the Flint Journal that the district is still negotiating with teachers and staff on specific cuts.

And they're also negotiating a new contract.

The district also says they're trying to borrow money against its state aid to help pay bills for the rest of the year.

But state officials have not yet given Flint schools permission to borrow the money.
