WNEM.com has learned that an Isabella County school was placed on internal lockdown for a short time after students reported seeing a fellow student in possession of some type of gun.

Renaissance Public School Academy principal Lisa Bergman told TV5 that Tuesday morning, two fourth-grade boys reported to their teacher that a classmate had brought some type of gun to school.

The Isabella County Sheriff's department was called and deputies determined that the weapon was an Airsoft gun, a realistic replica of a handgun that shoots small round pellets.

Bergman said classes continued with the school on internal Lockdown until deputies determined that there was no criminal act and no danger to other students.

The fourth-grade boy who brought the weapon was taken out of school. Bergman couldn't comment on disciplinary action. Berman did say that the two boys who went to their teacher will be recognized at the school's Student Of The Month assembly this Thursday.

A letter explaining the incident is being sent home to parents Tuesday evening.
