DECKERVILLE, Mich. (AP) -
A snowy owl that was impaled on a utility pole in northern Sanilac County is recovering at an animal rehabilitation center in Bay City.
The Huron Daily Tribune of Bad Axe reports that the owl was rescued last weekend in Custer Township thanks to the efforts of numerous people. The bird was flapping about and could not free itself.
Officials from the Sandusky Community Fire Department, Sanilac County Sheriff's Department, Thumb Electric and Back 2 the Wild Wildlife Rescue of Fort Gratiot were among those involved in the rescue. The bird then was treated by a veterinarian.
After spending the night at Fort Gratiot, the owl was taken to Bay City where it is undergoing rehabilitation with the hope that it can be returned to the wild.
