MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A dog is recovering at the Montgomery Humane Society after biting off his own foot due to frostbite.

Cinnamon was picked up during the cold snap last week after a neighbor called the humane society.

Animal cruelty investigator Robert Bryant says they knew immediately the chow needed help. Cinnamon was taken to a veterinarian and his injuries were determined to be so severe that his leg had to be amputated.

Bryant says Cinnamon is doing much better now and is moving around just fine on three legs.

He says this case shows how important it is to bring animals inside when the temperature is below freezing.

"Do whatever it takes to get them out of the cold because they're just not going to make it out there when it gets cold," Bryant said.

Bryant said Cinnamon's owners aren't facing charges at this time.
