Following an investigation by the Flora Police Department, The Madison County District Attorney and the Department of Human Services, Tri County headmaster Mark Johnson was taken into custody Monday. The 56 year old school administrator turned himself in to authorities.
"This morning around 10 a.m. the Flora Police Department served an arrest warrant on the headmaster of Tri County Academy Mark Johnson, said Flora Police Chief Dewayne Moak. "This arrest warrant was for simple assault. It was based on a complaint filed by a parent of the child at the school."
That parent was Tiffany Cox who said that Johnson's paddling left bruising and abrasions on her 12 year old's behind.
On February 4th he and another student were paddled after a bathroom stall door was broken. Cox said her son did not cause the damage and only reported it.
"I will not stop until my son gets justice," said Cox.
Last week the 30 year old mother of two demanded that Johnson be fired by the Tri County Academy School Board.
After repeated attempts we were unable to reach Cox for comment on the arrest.
Monday evening the Tri-County Academy Board of Directors held a meeting at the school.
We were not permitted to attend, but we do believe Johnson's arrest and the simple assault charge were discussed.
We asked for a comment from board president Spence Shepherd but had not received a statement as of news time.
"It is a misdemeanor charge the maximum fine is $500.00 and or six months in jail," added Chief Moak.
Johnson was released on a $475.00 bond. He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on the simple assault charge on February 24th.
