SVSU's Carriere named GLIAC North division player of the week

Saginaw Valley State University sophomore guard Katelyn Carriere has been chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division "Player of the Week" after leading the Lady Cardinals to a pair of victories.

Carriere had a big week while leading the Lady Cardinals to a pair of victories over GLIAC North opponents, running their win streak to six games.  The sophomore guard posted 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal in the team's 71-60 home victory over Lake Superior State before scoring a game-high 21 points with two assists and two steals in the team's 85-78 victory over #18 Wayne State.  The victory over the Warriors snapped WSU's 17-game home win streak and was SVSU's first win in Detroit since February 17, 2007.  Carriere is averaging 13.4 ppg for the 2013-14 season and is averaging 4.0 rebounds-per-game and 2.7 assists-per-game.  She is 5th in the league in free throw percentage (85.1%), 9th in three-point percentage (39.1%) and is in the top-15 in scoring with her 13.4 ppg.
The SVSU women's basketball team takes its 12-7 overall record and 10-6 GLIAC mark to the road on a trip to the Upper Peninsula with contests against Northern Michigan (Feb. 13) and Michigan Tech (Feb. 15) this Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
