NORTH BRANCH TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A local boy is in an area hospital after being hit by a vehicle Monday evening.

A truck driven by 47-year-old Wayne Bruman struck a child in North Branch Township.

Police say Bruman was driving on Slattery Road, south of Hasslick Road when he came over a hill. Bruman saw 8-year-old James McNees in the road on his sled, which was being towed by a quad runner.

Police say Bruman tried to take evasive action but was unable to avoid hitting the child.

McNees was transported to the hospital in serious condition with life threatening injuries.
