GOODRICH, Mich. (AP) -

The Flint-area community of Goodrich has approved a review to help deal with sinkholes that are increasing in size at a 100-year-old dam.

Officials approved the review by Midland-based Gerace Construction that's expected to cost more than $40,000. An engineering business, Wade Trim, is working on a plan to deal with the problem.

Wade Trim project engineer Jason Kenyon says work will include "exploratory excavation" and some dam repairs.

Wade Trim will help Goodrich get a permit for work from the state's Department of Environmental Quality.

In 2012, a DEQ report gave the dam a "significant potential hazard" rating. The report found no structural deficiencies Holes previously were patched along the spillway and embankment of the dam, which originally was used for hydroelectric power.
