4 towns issue water alerts due to brutal cold temps

Posted: Updated:

Four Mid-Michigan towns are urging residents to run a steady small stream of water, about the size of a pencil or larger, for 24-hours per day until further notice.

The cities of West Branch and Marlette, as well as the village of Elkton, are asking residents to run their water at a low trickle through the weekend to help fight against freezing pipes.

Sandusky issued a "run water" order to residents last month that is still active.

The municipalities say that utility customers will have adjustments made to their water bills.
