MSP: Fleeing driver causes crash

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Michigan State Police troopers say their attempts to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation ended with in a crash that critically injured a man.

Troopers said that on Thursday around 5 p.m., the attempted to pull a car over in Flint on Newell near Martin Luther King.

Authorities said the driver fled, disregarded a stop sign at the Newell/MLK intersection and crashed into another vehicle.

Troopers said the 76-year-old driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to an area hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Investigators said the fleeing suspect, a 28-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. The suspect is also currently hospitalized for injuries sustained in the crash.

Police said upon review of the cruiser's in-car video equipment, the time between the activation of the emergency lights and the time of the crash was 28 seconds. They also said their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
