A local middle school teacher accused of having sex with a student multiple times was in court Friday for a preliminary examination.

Thirty-one-year-old Sarah Raymo, of Essexville, waved her preliminary hearing at the Bay County Courthouse and will proceed next with a trial. She is a teacher at Bay City's T.L. Handy Middle School, but has been put on administrative leave by the Bay City Public School District.

Raymo has been charged with having sex with a 14-year-old student, allegedly during several encounters at the school and in her home. According to the Bay-Arenac ISD directory, Raymo is an English language arts intervention specialist.

On Friday a fourth charge was filed against her. The victim, now 15, testified last month that Raymo bought him cigarettes and alcohol, and that the two had sex about seven or eight times, including once inside her classroom.

Raymo remains lodged at the Bay County Jail on a $250,000 bond. She entered a not-guilty plea in a previous court appearance.

If she's found guilty of all the charges, she could be sentenced to up to life in prison.
