Augusta National Golf Club (WFXG) -

A famous landmark at the Augusta National Golf Club is gone after the recent ice storm that hit in Augusta.

The storm caused irreparable damage to the Eisenhower Tree, resulting in the loss of most major branches, said Billy Payne, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club.

The tree was removed this weekend.

"The loss of the Eisenhower Tree is difficult news to accept," Payne said. "We obtained opinions from the best arborists available and, unfortunately, were advised that no recovery was possible."

Payne said that the golf course sustained no major damage otherwise and that preparations for the 2014 Masters Tournament will not be affected.
