Michigan's loss earlier in the day opened the door for No. 9 Michigan State to take sole possession of the conference lead, but Nebraska got in the way.
The Cornhuskers stunned the Spartans 60-51 behind 23 points from Terran Petteway and 18 from Walter Pitchford.
The 14-10 Cornhuskers led 32-25 at the half and held off a second-half surge with a 9-2 closing run.
Gary Harris led MSU with 18 points and 7 rebounds, but shot just 5-15 from the field, including 1-7 from 3-point range.
The victory is Nebraska's 1st against a team ranked in the top 10 since 1997.
