A Swartz Creek teenager is among six youngsters nationwide named as a divisional "Young Marine of the Year."

The Flint Journal reports that 15-year-old Michael Borka could barely maintain his excitement when Young Marines National Executive Director Mike Kessler called to tell him about the honor.

The designation puts Borka in the running for national "Young Marine of the Year" to be announced in June.

He also will travel to Guam and Iwo Jima for the Reunion of Honor tour, where he will escort veterans of the battle of Iwo Jima and explore the island made famous in World War II.

The Young Marines program is a national youth education and service nonprofit for members from 8 years old to high school seniors.
