SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

SMG, the management company for TheDow Event Center and FirstMerit Bank Event Park, is proud to announce that LaMarr Woodley, Saginaw native and current NFL player with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has presented a contribution in the amount of $175,000 to Saginaw County and The Dow Event Center.

The agreement includes a $125,000 donation which will support the renovation of Unity Hall as well as a $50,000 sponsorship agreement with SMG for the purpose of attracting more events to TheDow Event Center and FirstMerit Bank Event Park.

With the sponsorship agreement, Woodley is able to further his continued investment into the Saginaw community, and will also have the opportunity to organize future events at both venues. A plaque will be dedicated and placed in Unity Hall recognizing his contribution to downtown Saginaw.

"Jordan and I have always been committed to Saginaw and helping the community when we have the chance," said Woodley. "Our contribution for improvements to The Dow is an opportunity for us to help the venue become even more attractive for entertainers and events to bring their business to the city."

The dollars for Unity Hall will target renovations of the room to display a more contemporary look to attract a wider range of events, including concerts and comedy shows. Plans are in place to install a permanent bar and stage as well as several other amenity improvements.

"We are very appreciative of this generous donation from LaMarr and his wife, Jordan," said Matt Blasy, General Manager of TheDow Event Center and FirstMerit Bank Event Park. "They approached because they wanted to find a way to get involved with the continued improvements to downtown Saginaw, and were able to develop this concept. Their generosity will result in an increase in events, traffic and people downtown which we believe will have a positive and lasting impact on surrounding businesses as well."

Woodley's past philanthropic efforts in Saginaw include a $60,000 donation to the Saginaw Public School District to cover ‘pay to participate' athletic fees, free annual football camps, ‘First Impression' back to school events, Thanksgiving giveaways, Heroes for Kids programs, continued support for Saginaw High School and several donations to other local organizations.
