(CNN) - Winter weather may be impacting the construction industry. In December, groundbreaking on new homes had the biggest one month drop in seven years, according to recent government data.

But the weather didn't impact every region.

Construction on new homes in the northeast was up despite winter storms and it was down in the west where weather was relatively good.

Despite the recent weaknesses, experts believe the housing recovery is still going strong.
