The Dow Jones industrial average rose 13 points, or 0.1 percent, to 16,054 in the first few minutes of trading Thursday.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose a point, or 0.1 percent, to 1,829 and the Nasdaq composite was flat at 4,234.
