Authorities say employees escaped injury after roofs collapsed under the weight of snow at two separate plants in the Grand Rapids area.
The Grand Rapids Press reports firefighters in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming were alerted to a roof collapse at a building rented by Knape & Vogt Manufacturing Co. about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
An alarm sounded when a 50-by-100 foot section of flat roof caved in.
About 30 employees safely exited the building.
Around 9 p.m. in Grandville, firefighters were called to a building used as a paper processing facility for a recycling company. An alarm was also triggered by a roof collapse. All employees were accounted for, and no one was injured in the collapse.
Snow combined with rain has put more stress on snow-covered roofs.
