Officials: Student held after Ferris St. stabbing

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -

Officials say a Ferris State University student is in custody after a fellow student was stabbed at an on-campus residence hall.

The Big Rapids school says the suspect, who was arrested Sunday afternoon, is being held in the Mecosta County jail amid an ongoing investigation.

An arraignment is expected Monday afternoon. The stabbing happened between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Sunday.

The injured student was treated at a hospital and released.

The school initially reported that the stabbing took place at an off-campus apartment complex, but officers later learned that it happened at a residence hall where both students live.

The school says the students knew each other and a pocket knife may have been used in the stabbing.

The school is located about 50 miles north of Grand Rapids.
