SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Crews are on the scene of a water main break on Saginaw's west side that has closed a portion of a busy roadway. The eastbound lanes of Gratiot Avenue or M-46 is closed between Wheeler and Larch streets as a result of the break.

The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. Friday morning. Officials are asking drivers to avoid the area.

This is the second water main break to happen in that area on Friday.

Another water main break happened about a mile away on Wheeler Road between Ring Street and Michigan Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.

TV5 Facebook friend Kayla Harper, who lives in the area, says all of the residential streets within a few blocks of the area are blocked off.

Harper also says that there are about 8 or 9 vehicles in the area that are completely flooded out.

Officials are asking drivers to avoid the area, if possible.

WNEM will continue to follow this story and will provide updates as new information is learned.
