The funeral for the young boy who was allegedly killed by his father in late February took place Thursday morning in Saginaw.
Elijah Dillard, 6, was found unresponsive at his home on the 1800 block of Ames. Officers said the child appeared to have burns on his body and trauma to his head.
Dillard died at an area hospital.
Murder charges have been filed against the man accused of abusing Dillard. Aki Dillard, 39, was charged with first-degree murder and open murder last Tuesday afternoon, March 6.
Dillard was arraigned on charges of torture, assault with intent to murder and first-degree child abuse. Dillard has an extensive criminal history, spending time in prison in another state.
The boy's mother, 30-year-old Mio Campbell, was also arraigned on child abuse charges.
District Judge Kyle Higgs Tarrant has set Aki Dillard's bond at $15 million and Campbell's at $5 million. The judge scheduled their probable cause hearing for March 17.
The prosecutor's office didn't immediately have information on whether the defendants have lawyers.
