A new vision in the works for a recreational, commercial and upscale pier in Bay City.
That vision will include shops and restaurants on the Saginaw Bay, extending out over the water.
The project is called the Paraleon Pier. It's an idea that Michael Seward, President of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce says has been years in the making. Seward says it would be big economic boost to Bay County.
"It would bring many tourists into the area, they would be spend their money on not just, in terms going to restaurants but also on hotels and going to retail stores and others , so it would be a very positive thing economically for us and it would mean that local people would spend maybe even a little bit more of their money here rather than elsewhere on vacation," says Seward.
If approved, the pier, still in the early stages could be located on land near the Bay City State Park.
A study is underway to see if the pier is possible but first the Chamber of Commerce needs an agreement with the Department of Natural Resources to lease the land. Seward says its an ongoing process.
"It is going to be a few weeks in just in terms of getting a general agreement, then its going to take more weeks to get approval and then its really going out and getting the thing built, so yes we are talking about a few years out before it would actually be completed," said Seward.
A final plan is expected to be released in a few weeks.
