The first person of Hispanic descent elected to the Saginaw city council has died.

Daniel Soza Junior served the city for 12 years. He's being remembered as a man who loved helping others and lived to serve his community.

The former Saginaw city councilman passed away Monday.

Soza made Saginaw history in 1993, becoming the first Hispanic resident to be elected to city council.

Soza served for 12 years in city council chambers. Even after he left council in 2005, Soza continued to stay actively involved in the community he loved.

As recently as a few months ago, Soza spoke at a local school, preaching his message of dedication to the entire community.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been set.
