SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A car collided with a train just after 9 a.m. Wednesday in Saginaw Township and that forced the closure of two intersections.

TV5 has received word that the intersection at McCarty and Mackinaw has reopened to traffic. The intersection of Hemmeter and McCarty has also reopened to traffic.

Police say a 63-year-old Thomas Township man was traveling northbound on Hemmeter Street and disregarded the railway crossing signal and was hit by the train.

The train was heading eastbound. The man sustained minor injuries in the crash. His vehicle was completely destroyed.

The train sustained minor damage and the accident did not cause any of the train's contents to spill.
