Demolition underway at Tanger Outlet Mall

Posted: Updated:
OGEMAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

The Tanger Outlet Center in West Branch remains closed after a roof collapse in February.

Demolition is underway as crews have already torn down the Ralph Lauren Polo store. Officials will then demolish the Hanes store as well.

After demolition is complete, crews will decide if the mall is structural enough in order to reopen.

The collapse originated at the Ralph Lauren store and ended up impacting both the Hanes store and Van Heusen location.

According to The Ogemaw Herald, authorities say they believe the cave-in was due to a build-up of snow on the roof. No official cause has been released however.

A nearby Applebee's, which closed following the cave-in, has since reopened.
