Genesee Co. holds child support amnesty event

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Genesee County is giving parents a chance to make up for their mistakes without fear of being arrested.

The county held a child support amnesty event Thursday.

Dozens of people came out to get help with managing child support payments they're behind on.

For anyone who came to the event, the Friend of the Court promised amnesty, meaning anyone who's looking for help were not arrested.

Friend of the Court Director John Battles says the last event held back in December was a huge success.

"We were able to clear 513 warrants, we waived almost $7 million," says Battles.

Officials are hoping to reach out to even more people who are facing hardships, and have a difficult time making their payments.

Another child support amnesty event is happening next Thursday, March 13. Seminars are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at New Jerusalem Church in Flint.
