Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has formally filed charges against an 18-year-old Swartz Creek man related to a crash that killed a young mother on U.S. 23 in Mundy Township.
Zachary Lee Parker, 18, has been charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death.
Mariah Bailey Collins was riding in a car on U.S. 23 in Mundy Township February 9, when her car was struck by Parker, who was driving the wrong way on the highway.
Police said Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Collins' 11-year-old son was also in the car driven by her newlywed husband Bryan Collins.
Parker was taken into custody on the night of the crash but was released because there weren't any charges against him at that time.
Toxicology reports say that Parker's blood alcohol content was .197, more than twice the legal limit.
Parker faces eight counts in all, the most severe being second-degree murder. That charge carries a penalty of up to life in prison.
Parker was arraigned Friday afternoon in 67th District Court.
