A missing 12-year-old girl from Gwinnett County has returned home.
Kelsie Lee returned home shortly after 11 p.m. Monday. A neighbor discovered the girl and asked if she was Kelsie Lee. When Kelsie confirmed who she was, the neighbor took her home.
The 12-year-old went missing early Monday morning. Police said the girl's mother called 911 about 8:45 a.m. to report that she returned to their home in the 4600 block of Jones Bridge Circle in Peachtree Corners after being out and Kelsie, who should have been there, was missing.
Kelsie's sister told police her sister went outside to take out the trash and never returned.
On Tuesday, police said Kelsie had run away from home.
During the search, neighbors were concerned for the child and pitched in to help.
"It is horrible to think your children can't be in their own front yard," said Missy Woolever, who lives nearby.
Gwinnett County police organized a massive search, going door to door, using K-9 units and a helicopter. Neighbors pitched in where they could.
"People are very concerned and they are coming here to see if they can help," said Sandy Waid, a neighbor.
"We are just here to support the family, pray for the family in any way we can," said Brian Ballard, who lives nearby.
Although many of the volunteers said they don't know Kelsie, they said they feel for her parents.
"I absolutely pray for those parents, for the strength to get them through this waiting," said neighbor Sandy Theurer.
According to Gwinnett County police, there are no plans to bill the family for the waste of resources.
