SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Several new restaurants are slated to open in downtown Saginaw, including one on the riverfront that is just one of many renovations happening in the city.

Abraham Allen and his wife Dorothy are developing a restaurant called Indigo in Saginaw. Allen tells TV5 his eatery will cater to a mature crowd.

"I'm really looking forward to being able to bring something new and different in the downtown area," says Allen.

Area leaders say the opening of the CMU Health Surgical Disciplines building has spurred economic development in Saginaw."

Todd Miller is Vice President of Saginaw Future. He tells us he's seen more growth in downtown Saginaw over the last 20 months than the twenty years before that.

"We do have a number of restaurants that are slated to open over the next couple of years which is exciting because we really haven't had too many new places to eat open up in recent memory," says Miller. "I feel very proud about having a venue on the Saginaw River. And it's something that I feel is way long overdue."

Allen tells TV5 his riverfront restaurant will open later this year.
