PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) -
A Pass Christian native has died after being hit by an alleged drunk driver at a Texas music festival. Sandy Le is the third person to die in the tragic accident.
Le, 26, went to Pass High before graduating from Mississippi School of Math and Science in 2006. Le's family said she went to USM and then moved to Austin, Texas to continue school.
Le's parents are shrimpers in Pass Christian. Her sister and brother live in South Mississippi and her other sister and brother-in-law, Stuart Gate, live in Hattiesburg. Gate said the family is traveling back from Texas where they have been by Le's side since she had been on life support for the past four days.
Le's cousin, who lives in Ocean Springs, said, "She was a beautiful woman that enjoyed every moment in life!"
"Just brilliant," Gates said, "she just loved life, just awesomely quirky as I describe her. Not to sound cliche, but she would light up a room when she came in. She was somebody you always looked forward to seeing in a visit, very compassionate, one of those that in 26 years probably got out of life more than any of us will."
Le's family asked that you pray for all the victims.
"It is just a testament to who they are," Gates said. "I asked the family if they want to convey anything, knowing we might have a platform and could say something, and they were selfless enough to say, 'Pray for the families and other victims.' That just tells you all you need to know about them."
Rashad Owens, 21, is being blamed for Le's death and two others. Several still remain hospitalized. Police say Owens allegedly fled early Thursday morning and then intentionally ran through barricades where several people were gathered for the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Owens's blood alcohol level was .114, according to police. He is being charged with capital murder and police say more charges are expected.
