Saginaw schools superintendent inks new contract

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

The Saginaw schools superintendent has a new contract just days after receiving his evaluation from the school board.

The board approved a new contract late Wednesday night for Carlton Jenkins. His contract was renewed until the 2016 to 2017 school year.

Despite the district's current debt crisis and school closings, a majority of members support keeping Jenkins.

One board member, Rudy Patterson, abstained from voting. Patterson says with schools closing and enrollment declining it's time for a change.

Jenkins says he's ready to move forward.
