Niagara Foundation to host Abrahamic Traditions dinner

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The third annual Abrahamic Traditions dinner will take place Thursday evening at the Riverfront Banquet Center in Flint.

Watch an interview with Steven Low, Executive Director of the Flint Jewish Federation about what is to take place at the event.

Below is the transcribed interview.

Tonight we have the third  annual Abrahamic Traditions dinner at the Riverfront Banquet Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m. This is an interfaith gathering and we talk about topics of interest to all three faiths. These days there have been reports that Americans are less and less affiliating religiously. And so our topic tonight is how do we pass on our traditions and our values to our children. And we have a speaker coming from the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic faiths to talk about what maybe inspired them to continue their traditions. And how they've been successful in passing on their traditions. It will also include some displays of religious objects and artifacts and crafts. So it's going to be a very interesting and engaging evening.

Question: So why should someone come out to the event?

Answer: Well, I think people should come to this event because we're all aware how polarized we are these days. And how we're talking past one another. Both politically and every other aspect of our life. We're trying to get to the point where we can actually begin to talk to each other, and share our different narratives, and create some avenues of dialogue; at least along the faith community.

Question: What is the cost?

Answer: There is no cost for tonight's event. There's a wonderful dinner and there's no charge for that dinner. The main thing is that we want you to come and meet others and interact and set up relationships. It's a chance to get to know one another. That's the only cost.

Question: So the Riverfront, that's right down here on Saginaw Street?

Answer: Yes, at 1 Riverfront Center. But basically, right off of Saginaw.

Question: ….at 5:30…..

Answer:  At 5:30 we'll open up the doors. We'll have our displays, we'll have our demonstrations. At 6:15 we will sit down for the presentations and the dinner. We're going to have some comments by Congressman Dan Kildee who will be in attendance. And other officials will be in attendance to lend their support and their voices to this effort.

Question: Anything else you want to add that I didn't ask?

Answer:  Well, the only other thing is that we don't see this as an end, we see it as a beginning. We're going to have other interfaith luncheons, events, and dialogues. And anyone who's interested in being a part of that should get in contact with either the Niagara Foundation, or send an email to me at steven@flintfed.org and we'll include you in our future events.

Question: Is there an RSVP to tonight's event?

Answer: I would just show up at the door, just show up at the door.
