It's not just March Madness on the basketball court, but also in one doctor's office. That's because the games bring an increase in one particular procedure, vasectomies.
Most people are distracted by the games, so the office decided to take advantage of that distraction in order for the patients to get the proper down time they need.
Dr. Al Borhan with Affiliated Urologists performs sometimes 10 of these procedures every day of March.
"This gives you an opportunity to actually have a doctor's excuse, watch your favorite games and get something that your wife or loved one has been asking you to get done," Borhan said.
In addition to the procedure the patients are given a little something extra to make the whole experience enjoyable: pizza and wings.
"There's a rise of people who want pizza during the game and there's a rise in vasectomies so perfect marriage," Borhan said.
Dave Kiepke is one of the patients coming in to get a vasectomy done. Not only does the less evasive procedure attract him, but the whole concept made it better.
"Doctor brought in pizza. I watched the game, got my vasectomy done, so I think it will be cool," Kiepke said.
And what better excuse than having some surgery to give you reason to chill out on the TV undisturbed.
"No kids, no neighbors just me and the TV, that's it," Kiepke said.
The down time is a few days and medication helps with any discomfort. And even though the doctor wants you to enjoy watching the games, try not get too into them.
"We don't want you to be the fan that's gonna jump at the TV and do crazy things some of the medications that you're gonna be on is hopefully gonna slow you down," Borhan said.
If you think the time is now to get this done and you want to be left alone while the basketball games are on, go quick to book an appointment. Click here for more.
