SB: UA hits 5 home runs in 13-1 win

The offense hit a season-most five homeruns while the pitching staff limited Oregon State to two total hits as theseventh-ranked Arizona softball team cruised to a 13-1, five-inning victoryover Oregon State.

The win assured the Cats (27-6, 2-3 Pac-12) of the seriesvictory over Oregon State (11-16, 2-3 Pac-12).

Arizona's 13 runs mark the 10th time the Cats have scored indouble digits this season in 33 games after scoring 10 or more just nine timesin 59 game games last season. The 13 runs are the most scored in a Pac-12 gamefor Arizona since beating Washington 13-5 in 2011.

Katiyana Mauga hit two home runs to lead the offense whileHallie Wilson, Kellie Fox and Mo Mercado had one apiece.

UA had 12 hits in its four innings of offense. Wilson, Fox,Kelsey Rodriguez and Mauga all had multi-hit affairs.

Starter Kenzie Fowler (5-2) did not allow her first hit of thegame until a two-out homer by Alexis Gonzalez in the top of the fourth inning.Fowler allowed just two total base runners in her four innings of work. NancyBowling entered in the fifth and allowed one hit and struck out one in herscoreless inning of relief.

The Wildcats put a five spot up in the bottom of the first, allunearned runs. Hallie Wilson reached on error to start the frame and came intoscore Chelsea Goodacre's groundout to short, the second out of the inning. UAwould add four additional runs, starting with a Kelsey Rodriguez RBI single toleft. Arizona would then hit back-to-back homers to extend the lead to 5-0.Katiyana Mauga's two-run homer was followed by Mo Mercado's solo blast.

The Cats added on in the second inning when Kellie Fox hit herNCAA-lead-tying 12th homer of the season. It was a two-run opposite-field homerthat came with two outs to score Chelsea Suitos.

UA batted around in the fourth and hit two homers in the bottomof the third. Mauga led off the frame with her second homer of the game, ablast that landed on the top row of the outfield bleachers. Lauren Young andCourtney Rodriguez recorded one-out singles before Hallie Wilson homered offthe top of the centerfield wall, her second in the last two games and fifth ofthe season. After a Fox single, Goodacre singled in a run and Kelsey Rodrigueztripled in another to give UA a 13-0 lead after three.

Oregon State got on the board, and broke up Fowler's no-hit bid,in the top of the fourth when Gonzalez hit a two-out solo homer to left center.

Arizona will go for its first Pac-12 series sweep since sweepingUtah in 2012 Monday at noon PDT on the Pac-12 Network.
