Local tourism bureau unveils new website

Posted: Updated:

The tourist season is right around the corner and in an effort to snag visitors, a local convention and visitors bureau has unveiled a new web site.

Annette Rummell is the executive director of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau. Rummell welcomes everyone to gogreat.com. It's a brand new web site unveiled last Friday.

The site gives visitors all the information they need to travel here and enjoy all that Mid-Michigan has to offer, like festivals.

Lindsay Gilbert was one of the driving forces in putting the website together last year.

"It's a responsive design site which is something that's what been created a lot in the past, which is very on-trend and cutting edge. That means that it snaps from desktop to tablet to mobile so we don't have to create a mobile website that's separate," says Gilbert.

The site translates to 64 languages. When people from other countries book through the site, they save money that in the past would have gone to travel agents.

The site cost about $150,000 to put together.

Rummell says the website has already been selected as the site of choice out of 200 convention and visitors bureaus websites around the world.

Meanwhile, the Convention and Visitors Bureau also hopes to attract tourists by airing a TV spots beginning mid-April.

The spots will once again feature the voice of Michigan native Tim Allen.
