SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

This year's harsh winter has taken its toll on just about everyone, from drivers to those who take care of the roads.

The Saginaw County Road Commission is already about a million dollars over its budget thanks to mother nature.

Dennis Borchard is the managing director for the Saginaw County Road Commission. He says those additional costs can add up quickly.

"Well obviously, salt, overtime, truck repair, anything like that that has a cost factor. Right now we are dealing with flooding and coverts that are still plugged, we are trying to get through those," says Borchard.

The Saginaw County Road Commission is responsible for about 19 hundred roads. Roads that have taken quite a beating this winter and it shows in their budget and they have to make some tough decisions about it in the upcoming months.

The county will receive more than 876-thousand dollars in supplemental funding from the state, which will be used to cover some of the road commissions costs this spring.
