Pack your patience as cone zones are coming

It may not feel like it but spring and summer construction projects are right around the corner.

When warmer temperatures eventually get here, so will those orange barrels.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has several projects planned in Mid-Michigan this year and soon the road work could start to impact the way commuters get around.

Motorists say they've come to realize that the beginning of spring is usually a sign that construction season is on its way.

One of the big projects likely to impact some of the most drivers is in Bay County. Starting in May, crews will begin work on more than three miles of 1-75 from Pinconning Road to the Arenac County line.

Jack Hofeweber from MDOT says the project will mostly affect weekday travel. Each direction of the highway should always have at least one lane open. Also, crews expect to open up more lanes during the weekends.

This project is expected to wrap up in November.

In Saginaw County, crews are preparing to pick up their I-75 and Zilwaukee Bridge construction project from where they left off last fall.

In less than 3 weeks, MDOT will continue their project of reconstructing I-75 between north and southbound junctions of I-675.

Construction on the northbound lanes starts April 12.

Crews expect to have this road project completely wrapped up by this fall.
