Wayne Masciarella is the suspect in the killing of Courtney Cash.
Authorities say the body of Courtney Cash was found in a box inside her home.
COOKEVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
The man accused of killing the great-niece of Johnny Cash made an appearance in court Wednesday.
Bailiffs brought in Wayne Masciarella so he could be formally introduced to his attorney.
Masciarella was arrested for the murder of Courtney Cash last week.
Authorities found her body in a box inside her home on Rice Road on March 19.
Putnam County officials say Masciarella attacked Courtney Cash and her boyfriend, William Johnson, inside the couple's home.
Johnson, who was stabbed several times, was able to grab their 20-month-old daughter and run outside.
Masciarella will be back in court next Wednesday for a bond hearing.
His attorney, Doug Dennis, says he's going to ask the court to keep the cameras out of the courtroom during his preliminary hearing.
At the same time the accused killer was in court, the Cash family gathered to say their final goodbyes. The funeral for Courtney Cash was held at the Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Instead of flowers, the family is asking for donations for an education fund for her daughter. The "Cameryn Cash Fund" has been set up at Bank of America, and donations can be made at any branch.
