Daughter of North Hopkins Road murder suspect arrested

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The daughter of the suspect in the North Hopkins Road murder has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

The Medical Examiner says a body found off North Hopkins Road died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Richmond police identified the body as 20-year-old Samantha Myers earlier Thursday and arrested her stepsister, 40-year-old Yvette Hairston, in the murder.

Police say Yvette  Hairston confessed to killing her stepsister; she is now charged with murder. Yvette's daughter, 21-year-old Selena Hairston, was arrested Friday.

Myers body was spotted by a passerby in a ravine not far from McGuire VA Medical Center Monday morning, but police couldn't identify her at the time. So, they released pictures of Myers' tattoos and a sketch of her face which led to new tips Wednesday afternoon.

Yvette Hairston was interviewed by Detectives Ed Aeschlimann and David Burt and confessed to killing her stepsister after an argument, according to police.

"She did admit to committing the murder, she was charged last night," said Major Steve Drew with Richmond Police.

Police say the women got into an argument, which led to Myers' death. They are not releasing Hairston's mugshot right now. It's an accusation loved ones cannot believe.

Junious Johnson says Yvette Hairston is the mother of his child, and Myers was like a sister. When asked if he believed Yvette Hairston confessed to killing Myers, Johnson made it clear he doesn't believe it.

"No, no, no, no, no, no," he said. "Don't ask no questions like that, because that's wrong. Yvette would never put her hands on her. Yvette would never do nothing like that."

NBC12 asked Johnson about the alleged confession now on file with police.

"Because they're stupid, they don't know what they're doing," he said.

But detectives say they have a strong case, which now includes the home where the two women lived. Neighbors say they saw a number of police cars at the house on Wednesday night, and they became more nervous when a forensics unit showed up.

"There were items recovered from that residence that will be used in the case," said Major Drew.

Police are not releasing where Myers was murdered. Yvette Hairston was charged with murder, but a court date has not yet been set.
