FLINT, Mich. (AP) -

An official says workers involved in blight elimination efforts in Flint found 12 dead dogs dumped in the middle of a street in trash bags.

Flint spokesman Jason Lorenz says the dogs were found Monday morning along the curb on the 1200 block of Rankin Street and the animals may have been used in dog fighting.

There are no occupied homes on the block where the dogs were found, which has trash, tires and furniture strewn along the street.

Police Chief James Tolbert says it wasn't immediately known how the dog died. Tips are being sought by police. The Genesee County Humane Society also is investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. All calls are anonymous.

On Saturday in Detroit, officials said the remains of three dogs were found at River Rouge Park following earlier reports of other dead dogs at the park.
