Trial of accused child murderer underway in DeSoto Parish
DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -
The capital murder case of Brian Horn begins today, four years after police say he killed a Stonewall boy.
According to the Shreveport Times, six women and six men from East Baton Rouge Parish will hear evidence against the 37-year-old. He is accused of the March 30, 2010 asphyxiation death of Justin M. Bloxom of Stonewall.
Detectives say that Horn lured the 12-year-old from a friend's house by pretending to be a 15-year-old girl through text messages. They say the twice convicted sex offender kidnapped Bloxom and killed him.
In 2012, Horn pleaded not guilty to the first degree murder charge. Since then, the defense has filed several motions to delay his trial, the last of which was in February. That motion was denied by DeSoto Parish District Judge Robert Burgess.
The jury was selected in East Baton Rouge Parish, but the trial will take place in DeSoto Parish.
Opening statements began at 9:30 a.m. Friday in state district court. Stay with KSLA for updates.
