BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A man who allegedly was breaking into a shed at a Bay City home got more than he was bargaining for when he was sprayed by a skunk.

A neighbor called 911 to alert police that two men were breaking into a shed at the home, located on the 300 block of West Calumet Street on the city's west side.

One suspect, 27-year-old Marquis D. Jackson, ignored officer commands and took off running. When officers caught up with the man, they found him lying on the ground after being sprayed by the skunk.

The other suspect, 18-year-old Kevin Prest Jr., surrendered to police immediately.

Police found the items that were claimed to have been stolen.

Jackson remains behind bars in the Bay County Jail while Prest was freed on bond.

Prest and Jackson were arraigned on counts of breaking and entering with intent to commit a larceny. Jackson was also arraigned on a count of assaulting, resisting or obstructing police.

Both men will appear for a settlement conference on April 4.
