George W. Bush impersonator confounds Mississippi congregation, brings Biblical message

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A regular Sunday evening service at Bethlehem Community Church wouldn't be cause for the Jones County Sheriff's Department to be on duty. But when word gets out that a speaker is a former president, people become interested.

"Nobody really knew what it was, and that was really the excitement of it," said church member David Jones.

The church had been promoting a speaker for several weeks with ads that had the American flag on the banner. One thing led to another, and the community believed former president George W. Bush was coming to town. When they showed up, the church's entrance was lined with American flags, men who appeared to be in the Secret Service were guarding the building, and hundreds of people packed the sanctuary, even out into the foyer.

"When he came on, I had my suspicions about it," said Robert Robinson. "I don't think George Bush would put that type of show on."

"It looked just like him, talked just like him, but when the sign went up, it gave me a little clue," said Lisa Parker.

That sign was only visible to people on the first few rows. It looks like the president's seal other than one word- impersonator. But that didn't stop the cheering or the pictures or the iPhone recordings of what hundreds of people expected to be "Number 43."

"It took me a few minutes because of some of the things he was saying kinda changed and all from what a president would have said," said Jones.

The impersonator's real name is John Morgan. He has traveled all over the country doing stunts like this one, but once he reveals his true identity, he turns the show into a biblical lesson. Some of the crowd Sunday night figured the trick out immediately, others said it took them the entire time to figure out his trick. But one thing is certain- hundreds of people in Jones County, both members and visitors of Bethlehem, were in worship that night.

"I mean, I enjoyed it," said Theresa Breland. "Even though it's not him, we had a good time, and we'll be back."
