Woman says attack was linked to same-sex marriage

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -

A southeastern Michigan woman says three men attacked her after recognizing her from news reports about same-sex marriage.

The Ann Arbor News, Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News report that the sheriff's department says the incident occurred Monday after the woman got off a bus in Washtenaw County's Ypsilanti Township.

The department says she told investigators that the men expressed anti-gay slurs and punched and kicked her.

The woman was married to her female partner March 22 during a brief window when Michigan's gay marriage ban was struck down and same-sex marriage was allowed. A federal court has suspended that decision.

The sheriff's department asks anyone with information about the attack to call 734-973-7711.
