A federal grand jury indicted two Mt. Pleasant men on charges of domestic assault by habitual offenders, according to a document released by U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade.
Official documents allege that John Melvin Traver Jr., 33 of Mt. Pleasant, struck his victim several times in her face and stomped on her foot.
In a separate incident that involved a different victim, Jonah Thomas Osawabine, 26, of Mt. Pleasant, allegedly grabbed his victim by the hair, dragged her into another room and slammed her in a door.
Both men have two or more prior convictions for assaults against intimate partners. If convicted, both men face up for five years in prison.
The two cases are being investigated by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Michigan.
