Residents complain of flooding at mobile home park

Posted: Updated:

People in a local community are demanding action after another flood struck their mobile home park. It's a situation that residents say happens year after year.

Tonia Miller lives in Arlington Manor, a mobile home community in Midland.

"I have to take my socks and shoes off to get to my vehicle to go to work in the morning. My trash can starts to float away," says Miller. "I've contacted the park and they don't seem to want to do anything about it."

So Miller contacted TV5, wanting us to ask the tough questions. Miller says there's a problem with the drainage system causing the water to back up. This turns her street into a small lake.

Miller isn't the only one upset.

Darlene Anderson has lived at the park for years. She says this backup happens every spring, only affecting one tiny section of the complex. She wants someone to fix the problem or reduce her rent.

"I don't think it's fair because I pay the same amount as everybody else," Anderson said.

On behalf of the residents at Arlington Manor, TV5 wanted to take our tough questions to management, wanting to know what they're going to do about the standing water.

TV5's James Felton went to the office to speak with the manager but the office was closed, even though their hours of operation are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. TV5 then tried contacting the property owner, Leader Management Company. Our calls were sent to voice mail.

As of 6 p.m. Thursday, April 3, no one had returned the call. Meanwhile, Miller says she talked to the owner. But she tells TV5 he's not concerned about the issue.

Miller says she's also contacted the county health department to see about the possible health hazards associated with the standing water at the park.

We'll keep you updated.
