Midland construction project delayed

Posted: Updated:
MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Construction for a major road project has been delayed at U.S. 10 and Patrick Road in Midland County.

Officials say frost within the ground is to blame and the project for a new roundabout may not start until late April.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says the project's goal is to improve driver's safety.

MDOT says motorists should expect lane closures and detours during the construction.

Meanwhile, Governor Snyder says a plan to fix Michigan roads is a good start for the budget but more needs to be done.

The Republican-led House has approved a plan to spend 500-million dollars this year on roads but the governor says that's only half of his spending target.

He says a structural funding change to improve road maintenance could save lives and money.
